Each session is 50 minutes long. This gives us ample time to discuss your concerns, explore solutions, and make progress on your personal goals.
What should I expect during my first session?
-
In your first session, we’ll focus on getting to know each other, discussing what brought you to therapy, and identifying your goals. I’ll explain the process of therapy, and together we’ll create a plan for how we can best address your needs.
Are sessions virtual or in person?
-
Yes! Totten Therapeutic Services offers virtual therapy throughout North Carolina, allowing you to attend sessions securely from the comfort and privacy of your own space. In-person therapy is also available on Mondays in Willow Spring, NC, in a peaceful farmhouse setting serving southern Wake County and surrounding communities.
Is therapy confidential?
-
Yes, all therapy sessions are completely confidential. I follow strict confidentiality guidelines to ensure your privacy is protected. The only exception is if there is a concern for safety or legal requirements, which we will discuss with you beforehand.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
-
If you’re feeling stuck, experiencing emotional challenges, or simply seeking personal growth, therapy can be a valuable tool. Whether it's managing stress, improving relationships, or addressing mental health concerns, we’ll work together to determine what will help you move forward.
Do I have to talk about things I’m not ready to share?
-
You are in control of what you share in therapy. We will work at your pace and only discuss what you feel comfortable with. Therapy is a safe space to explore your thoughts and emotions, but there’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready to.
Do you take insurance?
-
Yes, I accept Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth, UnitedHealthcare/Optum, BCBS, Medicaid, and self-pay options. If you're unsure about your coverage, I can help you verify your benefits.
How often do I need therapy?
-
The frequency of sessions depends on your goals and what you’re hoping to achieve. Some clients benefit from weekly sessions, while others may choose to come every other week or as needed. We’ll determine what works best for you.
What if I don’t know what to talk about in a session?
-
That’s perfectly okay. If you’re unsure about where to start, we can talk about what’s been on your mind lately, any challenges you’re facing, or even things you’d like to explore in the future. I’ll help guide the conversation to ensure it’s productive and helpful for you.
